Refugees flee from Pichori
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND - UNHCR personnel in Anaklia, Georgia, just a few kilometers from the Abhkazeti city of Pichori, noticed three jet fighters approaching from the north flying in formation at low altitude over Georgian territory. Personnel noted that refugees in the region have begun to panic and are fleeing to the south deeper into Georgia despite attempts to calm the area. Roadways in the area are poor and are expected to soon be impassable due to a high volume of traffic.
The United Nations High Council for Refugees expresses its sincerest hope that the situation will be quickly quelled and that Pichori residents may return home in a timely manner.
